Joey O’Brien is one of nine players who have been released by West Ham, after the Hammers confirmed their retained list this afternoon.
Republic of Ireland international O’Brien leaves after five years with the East London club, helping them to gain promotion back to the Premier League and consolidate in the top flight.
The right-back joined the Hammers following his release from Bolton Wanderers in 2011 and made more than 100 appearances during his time with the club.
He was to make just seven appearances for Slaven Bilic’s men this season, all of which came in either the Europa League or FA Cup.
Following O’Brien out of the East-London club are Elliot Lee, Leo Chambers, Amos Nasha, Nathan Mavila and Jordan Brown, who has joined Hannover 96 in Germany.
Lee spent the second half of the season on loan at Colchester United and leaves the club having made six first-team appearances, scoring one goal, which came against FC Lusitans in the Europa League last July.
Chambers, Nasha and Brown all made a handful of appearances for the Hammers between them.
Scholars Tim Brown, Clark Bogard and Ross Elsom have also been released.
