LEYTON Orient’s newest striker Jordan Bowery has said he cannot wait to get going after signing a two-year contract with the option to extend.

The 25-year-old who helped Oxford United to promotion last season was released by the U’s and made the switch to E10 last week.

Bowery came up against Orient , a game where the O’s won 1-0, at the Kassam Stadium and told the club website he knows he is going a good group of players.

“I am pleased just to be here, when the call came through straight away I was up for it,” he said.

“It is a good club obviously playing them last year they beat us 1-0 so I knew what I was coming for.

“I am looking forward to it.”

Bowery started his career at Chesterfield, netting 10 goals in 83 league appearances, and later had a two-year spell at Aston Villa, where he made 22 appearances, 15 of them as a substitute.

In 2014, he was signed by Rotherham for an undisclosed fee and scored five goals at the New York Stadium.

He then went out on loan to Bradford City featuring in three games for the Bantams before leaving Rotherham by mutual consent and moved on to link up with then League Two side Oxford.

During last season, he scored seven league goals from 17 appearances in U’s automatic promotion to League One and he also admitted he heard Orient were interested a few weeks ago.

He added: “I heard the club were interested about two, three weeks ago now.

“It took a while to get here but we got things done in the end.”

The forward also said the feels all the football leagues are good but there is something different about League Two.

“It is different in League Two, I feel, because pitches aren’t as prestigious as you would like them to be,” he said.

“But this year, I have been looking at the teams that have dropped down so I think it is going to be an exciting league this year.”

Bowery joined his new teammates on their pre-season tour in Italy from July 3 to July 10.

He also featured in the first 45 minutes of the O’s first UK pre-season friendly against Wealdstone as Orient went onto win 2-1 with goals from Jay Simpson and Sandro Semedo.
