Leyton Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler feels he will have a good team in place for the first game of the season against Cheltenham on Saturday, August 6.

The O’s lost 2-0 to Dover, with goals from Ricky Miller and Tyrone Marsh, on Saturday at The Crabble in their second UK pre-season friendly.

However, Hessenthaler said it was a good game in order to make sure the team are fit and ready for the season ahead.

He said: “The game was about 45 minutes of fitness work more than anything.

“We need to be on the training ground on a regular basis to get the organisation right once we get our team in our mind who we will play come August 6 that will come.

“With Set plays we have loads of time to make sure we work on them and we get them right.”

Hessenthaler added he knew Paul McCallum and Dean Cox need more game time to ensure they are fit for the 2016/17 season.

However, the 50-year-old praised summer signing Gavin Massey for his performance throughout the match.

“I thought Massey was excellent, I thought he was outstanding from start to finish and his work rate was great,” he said.

“He was our biggest threat going forward.”

Jordan Bowery and Aron Pollock both were left out of the friendly due to slight injury problems.

Bowery, who had a slight hip problem was left out for precautionary measures, and Hessenthaler said he hopes Pollock will be back within two-three weeks.

He also added he was still keen to sign a centre half to add to the eight signings he has already secured since he was given the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

“We need another centre half and to be fair to the owner we have spoken about that,” he said.

“If we can we will, the owner has been good with us trying to identify the right one and we will go from there, we know what we need.

“We probably need an experienced one in there in terms of organising people.

“Tom Parkes is still relatively young, we need that leader at the back to organise that back four and the midfield in front of him, so that is what we will be looking for.”

Orient travel to Woking on Tuesday, July 19 with a kick off time of 7.45pm.
