West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic says his team are well prepared for their first Europa League game of the 2016/17 season.

The Hammers will face Slovenia’s NK Domzale today and they warmed up with a 3-0 win over Karlsucher with goals from Andy Carroll, Sofiane Feghouli and Ashley Fletcher.

With their first game in the Premier League coming in just over two weeks, Bilic told the West Ham website their pre-season sessions have been different.

“We are happy with our preparations, and we have done everything that we wanted to do,” he said.

“But still we have to make a balance in our preparations to compromise some things because the competitive games don’t start on August 15.

“They start on Thursday, it’s not ideal but I’m really pleased with the way we’ve trained.

“We are still expecting a few players back, those who have been playing in the European Championships.

“If we continue to work hard like this, with dedication and humility, we can expect good things.”

Reece Oxford wants to use the disappointment of a semi-final exit at this summer’s UEFA Under-18 Championship to drive him on to more success.

The 17-year-old and England won all three of their group games in Germany to raise the prospect of a first title at Under-19 level, only to lose 2-1 to Italy in the semi-finals.

Oxford told the West Ham website: “The boys tried their best in Germany and we won every group game.

“We were probably the favourites out there but sometimes the ball just doesn’t go in the net for you and the opposition is stronger on the day.

“So, hopefully we will bounce back from that and go to the Under-20s World Cup next year as favourites to win it.

“It was a good experience, playing up a year against players who are the best in their countries. It helps everyone in the team.”

The defender, who joined the Hammers on their pre-season tour in Austria, is keen to build on his breakthrough last season, which saw him make 12 first-team appearances.

He added: “I’m happy to be back here for pre-season now. I’m fit, because I’ve been involved at the Under-19s Euros.

“But I just want to push on, hopefully play a couple of Europa League games and push on for the season.

“I made my debut in the Europa League last season, then played two or three more and that helped me go on and play the first game in the Premier League.

“Hopefully, I can do the same this summer, it would be good to be part of the squad to play in the first game at the new stadium next week too.”

The match kicks off at 7.45pm tonight at the Stozice Stadium.
