Leyton Orient won 3-0 against Stevenage in their second home game of the 2016/17 season at the Matchroom Stadium.

Two goals from Gavin Massey and another from Dean Cox was enough for the away side to seal their first three points.

Jobi McAnuff and Jamie Jones both returned to Brisbane Road for Stevenage but it will be a game they will likely want to forget.

Orient will now travel to Grimsby on Saturday, August 20 and O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler will once again need to ensure he picks the right starting XI.

Stevenage should have opened the scoring during the first minute of the game after McAnuff had his shot saved by Alex Cisak before Ben Kennedy could only blaze over the bar.

Tom Parkes had to produce an early clearance in the third minute of the game after Matt Godden went through and lifted the ball over Cisak but the defender ran back to clear off the line.

Harry Cornick had the first opportunity of the night for Orient but his shot was blocked well by Boro defender Andrew Fox.

Minutes later Cornick has another chance to open the scoring after Massey swung in a cross but he could not get enough power behind his header and it went over the bar.

It was Massey who got the first goal of the game after he fired home in the 20th minute Jones denied Jay Simpson first before Cornick hit the post.

The winger should have made it 2-0 five minutes later after Simpson played him in but he looked for a pass which was deflected behind and the corner led to nothing.

McAnuff once again almost made it 1-1 as he got into the area and played it across the six-yard line but Sandro Semedo was there to clear at the far post.

But Orient quickly went down the other end and Simpson was denied his first goal of the season as he fired straight at Jones.

Stevenge had another change to equalise as Andrew Fox broke down the left hand side of the pitch and cut in to have a shot but his effort was blocked by Nicky Hunt.

Cox then delivered in a great cross to Simpson but he is denied a header after The Boro displayed a terrific piece of defending.

The number seven doubled the home side’s lead in the 37th minute with a superb header as Cornick gets the assist as he crossed the ball in as Cox’s header goes in off the post.

Massey almost made it three after Jones dropped a cross from Hunt and Massey nipped in but his shot was deflected behind for a corner just before the break.

Liam Kelly tried to make it three in the early on in the second half as he took aim from outside the box but it was held by Jones.

Godden then managed to find a bit of space in the O’s box but his shot is defended well and goes out for a corner.

After a fine run down the pitch Cornick worked his way past Fox before McAnuff slid in to concede a corner which was cleared by Stevenage. But the away side did not want to give in as McAnuff squandered a chance to pull a goal back as he volleyed wide from 10-yards after latching onto a knock down.

Massey eventually made it three nil to the hosts in the 75th minute after substitute Jordan Bowery’s cross is deflected into his path and he drilled the ball home.

But, Erichot and Hunt two minutes later failed to clear McAnuff’s ball into the box and Connor Hunte crashed a shot wide.

Cisak was called into the action late on, three minutes from time, but he got down well to smother Gorman’s effort in a bid to keep a clean sheet.

The visitors kept pushing for an equaliser and it looked like they would sneak a consolation goal in the dying minutes but it was no avail and the scored finished 3-0 to the east London club.
