Racing driver Ben Green celebrated a double podium finish at the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup at Knockhill Racing Circuit at the weekend.

Having finished fourth in a rescheduled race from the previous meeting at Snetterton on Saturday, the Waltham Abbey racer had to settle for qualifying in sixth after suffering driveshaft failure.

But Green was able to climb up to third in the second race before a small mistake on the final corner of the last lap saw him slip back to fourth, just 0.02 seconds off a top-three place.

Despite the frustration, this put Green on a good grid position for Sunday’s first race and he quickly overtook Mark Davis on the first lap to move up to place which he then had to defend against two other drivers for the next 19 laps. He did so successfully with the race finishing four laps early due to a red flag.

By starting third on the grid in the final race, it put Green in good stead and he moved up to second due to Davis’ mechanical failure on pole.

The 18-year-old maintained this position until fellow driver Will Burns moved onto him into the chicane.

With the Super Green Racing driver knowing Burns is a fast competitor, he stayed with him while defending third position against championship leader Tom Wringley and Carl Broadley.

He started to build a gap against the pair and crossed the line safely in third and was delighted with how the weekend had gone.

“We had good place on the Friday practice and brought that through to the race weekend,” he said.

“We then made up a lot of positions during the first race of the weekend and had good starting positions from having a good finish in the opening race of the weekend.

“I’m confident we will be able to carry this momentum forwards and hope I can be on the pace and pushing for podiums at Rockingham in a few weeks’ time.”
