LEYTON Orient’s women’s football team have had an exceptional start in the London and South East Regional Women’s League as they continue their unbeaten run from February.

The O’s ladies have so far demolished their opposition as they beat Aylesford 4-0, recorded a 7-0 win over Watford Development and had two 8-0 finishes triumph Herne Bay FC and Carshalton Athletic.

Captain Danielle Griffiths has been a major part of the squad who have started with four wins, four clean sheets and netted 27 goals.

“It is very good and it has been a very interesting start to the season since we have been branded to the Orient kit,” said Griffiths.

“We think it is good to be a part of the Orient brand and team spirit is at an all-time high.”

One of the key ingredients of the women’s success this season is they have kept the majority of their squad from the last campaign and strengthened in all areas.

With only one team out of their league granted promotion, every player will be needed to ensure they achieve their goal.

The defender added: “We have built up a core squad and we had a trial day in the summer and we now have strength in depth.

“We have about two players for every position and our bench is extremely strong, competition for places is fierce.

“This will be quite a crucial factor for us this season.”

Last week, the club held a launch for Carrie Dunn’s book entitled Roar of the Lionesses, which features Orient WFC and follows a number of women footballers in the year following the World Cup.

The event took place at Brisbane Road in the Supporters Bar and all the players were in attendance.

“We are hoping the book will give us more recognition,” said the captain this week.

“And that it will help us with the spending we need in order to get to the Premier League.”
