Wadham Lodge moved into the FA Vase first round proper and will face Hertford Town after they defeated fellow Essex Senior League side Enfield 1893 3-1 at Kitchener Road.

A deflected effort from Musa Mennah put Lodge ahead before Fehenti Falola headed the home side into a two-goal lead from a well-worked corner routine.

Although Enfield did pull a goal back, Falola netted his second to restore the two-goal cushion.

Manager Neil Day was pleased with his side’s efforts and said: “It was nice to wake up Saturday morning already through to the next round. The fact we enjoyed a season’s best crowd of over 100 was also a bonus to a little club like Wadham.

“On the pitch we’re beginning to be more consistent and can give most teams a game, so there are some promising signs.”

Waltham Forest also secured their first FA Vase victory in 14 years by defeating Hadleigh United 2-1 and will now face Rothwell Corinthians in the first round.

Forest have only played twice in the competition since 2002 and after an even start, it was the visitors who took the lead through Kyle Cassell when his long-range effort took a deflection off Jack Fowler and looped over a stranded Rhys Madden.

The leveller came after some good pressure from Forest. Kubilay Akbayrak’s long-range free-kick evaded everyone in the box, before bouncing onto the crossbar and the ball eventually fell to Stephen O’Hara, who was fouled after his initial effort was blocked.

Correy Davidson made no mistake with the resulting penalty.

The winner came when Prince Madu beat four men before being cut down in the box, and Davidson again made no mistake from the spot.
