East London Boxing Academy member Jack Daly saw off stiff competition to win by a unanimous decision on Sunday in the National Boxing Development Championships.

The London champion faced the light-heavyweight Eastern counties champion Sean Higgins from Suffolk’s Patrick Boxing Club to progress to the semi-final.

In a tough bout, Daly got the better of his opponent in the second round as he secured a knockdown, with the bell saving his opponent.

Higgins dug deep in the third to cling on and took Daly into deep waters but the judges all agreed the East London club captain was the overall winner.

To get to this stage, the senior Under-81kg development champion boxed three times in three weeks and beat Edmonton Eagles boxer Dimetrov and St Pancras Boxing club member Liam Page in the London finals.

The club entered five boxers and two others also joined Daly in the national quarter finals.

Habbib Akram, the junior Under-52kg champion, and Hassan Chowdry, the junior Under-57kg development champion, are also still in contention for the title.

Head coach Umer Ali Iqbal said: “All three have been putting in a lot of effort to get to this stage and hopefully they will go all the way.

“This just shows how far the Academy has come .”

The club will are also hosting a home show, where all their boxers will be showcasing their skills, on Saturday, November 19 at the Community Hall on Grove Road, Walthamstow.
