Five things we learned from Leyton Orient’s 3-1 victory over Hartlepool United on Saturday…

1) Orient can spring up a comeback after going a goal down

The first half for many seemed Orient would once again be defeated in League Two after they conceded from a set piece just before half-time.

Josh Laurent bagged his first goal for Hartlepool after Orient had failed to defend a corner but The Os came out a completely different side in the second.

Alex Cisak was once again the hero of the day as he kept Pool at bay and stopped Padraig Amond doubling their lead.

And the Aussie got his rewards as Sandro Semedo equalised 10 minutes into the second half before Ollie Palmer bagged a brace.

It was great to see the Os have true fighting spirit after they looked dejected from conceding from sloppy defending – something they still need to work on.

2) Injuries are still an issue for the E10 club

Before the game Jay Simpson, Aron Pollock, Paul McCallum and Yvan Erichot were all ruled out through slight niggles and Alberto Cavasin confirmed he hoped they would be back in training on Monday.

But Semedo had to come off in the second half after Lewis Hawkins was booked for a nasty challenge on the winger and the extent of his injury will be assessed with a scan today.

The Os cannot afford anymore long staining absentees as Harry Cornick and Liam Kelly are both out on the sidelines for a lengthy period of time.

3) Ollie Palmer has gained a shed load of confidence

The 24-year-old was frustrated only a few weeks back as he had not started in a game since the 2-1 loss to Mansfield before their 2-1 loss to Luton two weekends ago.

But Cavasin has put his faith in the forward and the former Grimsby Man has thanked his boss by scoring three goals in two games.

Each time he scores he dedicates it to his nine-year-old cousin Frankie and everyone at Orient is wishing him a speedy recovery.

Palmer is full of confidence which you can see from both the goals he scored on Saturday and hopefully there is more to come.

4) The Os cannot take this win for granted

Orient received their first win in seven as they had not won since their 2-1 victory over Morecambe on September 3.

They had lost five and drawn two and the Os boss lost his first two games in charge against two tough opponents in Luton and Portsmouth.

While the Os faithful were pleasantly surprised with the result on Saturday – Orient need to kick on if they want a promotion spot.

The E10 club needed a win to gain some confidence and push on but they cannot be over so.

Many issues were still apparent in the first 45 minutes against a side who have not won at home yet this season.

But this does not take away from how well the Os played as a team in the last 45.

5) League Two is too close to call

The League is a good old strange one at that as points between the play-off spots and relegation are at a mere seven points but automatic spots are a little further.

Doncaster sit on 26 points in third with Orient 19th on 15 points – 11 behind.

But the league is so topsy-turvy The Os need to focus on one team and one team only – themselves.

If they keep grinding out and pushing for results and others falter they can easily push up the table and gain a play-off place or automatic promotion.

It is still early in the season and anything can happen.
