Waltham Forest ladies were looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss last week and did just that by defeating Canterbury Seconds 2-1.

Forest took the lead from a short corner which was turned in by Hannah Dobbin on the rebound.

But Canterbury was soon back on level terms when they scored from their own short corner routine just before the break and went in all square.

Forest keeper Morag Campbell made several saves in the second half to keep the away team at bay.

Isabelle Scerri later netted what proved to be the winner for the home side.

The men also secured a 2-1 victory over Havering but the Seconds lost 6-2 at the hands of Bedford.

The men’s Thirds and Fourths defeated Braintree Thirds 2-1 and Redbridge & Ilford Seconds 6-0 respectively.

But the same good news was not shared by the ladies’ Seconds and Thirds with the former losing 2-1 at home to Basildon Thirds. Redbridge & Ilford Seconds comfortably won 5-0 against the Thirds.

Old Loughtonians ladies suffered a crushing last-minute 2-1 defeat to St Albans.

The first half ended 0-0 with both sides defending well to shut their opponents out.

Early in the second period, Loughts stole the ball from a St Albans defender to open the scoring.

But St Albans dug deep and with 15 minutes to go the game was level again.

Loughts keeper Zara Rose had to make some important saves but in the last minute, St Albans were awarded a short corner which took a deflection into the net.

The men defeated St Albans 4-3 in a top-of-the-table clash in front of new coach Mike Williamson.

The game started at a high pace with the breakthrough coming from Will Hopkins.

Their second was not far in coming as new signing Kevin Ross finished with a reverse touch for his first goal for the club.

But St Albans rallied and levelled the scoring with two well-taken short corners before the end of the first half.

A golden opportunity fell to Loughts’ Harry Kempe in the second period to score a third but he sliced his shot past the corner flag.

His blushes were spared, however, by a clinical breakaway goal from Shane Martin after a one-two with Hopkins.

St Albans replied again with a stunning finish, giving keeper Fred Whitefield no hope.

Loughts regrouped once more and after being given a penalty flick, it was duly dispatched by Rory Coltham to send his side top of the East Premier Division.

There was a last-minute win for Wapping ladies, who saw off Maidstone 4-3.

After falling behind to an early goal, Wapping maintained possession and was rewarded when Jordan Mulvaney outfoxed the keeper to make it 1-1.

Vice-Captain Charlotte Keizer doubled their lead with a move in the circle.

Despite passages of Wapping play, their opponents snuck a goal against the run of play just before the half-time whistle.

And things got worse for the visitors in the second period when the hosts took the lead for the second time in the match.

It fell to captain Lucy Todd to rescue her side and she did so in style, scoring two goals from short corners to secure another victory.

The men’s Seconds team fired eight past Blueharts.

In the opening, 30 seconds of the match Jonny Madhill’s shot was deflected onto the post by forward Tatai Dewes.

However, it did not take long for the visitors to get back their finishing touch when skipper Charley Wright was the first to pounce, slotting the rebound home from Dom Oliver.

Soon after, they found themselves 2-0 up via a penalty corner when Ollie Davis was on hand to apply the final touch.

Wapping’s third came from good link-up play by James Fanger and Adam Haines and Nick McLaren got the final touch.

Before the half was complete, there was time for the visiting side to get on the scoresheet for a fourth time through Jason Black.

The second started more evenly but it didn’t take long for the visitors to add to their tally.

Two goals in quick succession were converted by Madill and McLaren.

Black then got on the scoresheet again as he helped the ball in at the back post from a Michael Bolle strike.

The resounding win was rounded off when Dewes converted a penalty as Wapping stay second in East Division One, two points off top spot.
