Martin Samuelsen says he is delighted to be back at West Ham United after his season-long loan deal with Blackburn Rovers was terminated.

The 19-year-old Norwegian made just two starts for the championship club after moving to Ewood Park in August.

He marked his return to West Ham by scoring in the under-23s 1-1 Premier League Two draw against Rovers on Monday.

A lack of game time with Rovers was a frustration for Samuelsen and he is pleased to be back playing after a frustrating spell in Lancashire.

“I’m always happy to score and get the minutes today. I just enjoy playing football really, the last time I played was here for the under-23s against West Brom so I’m delighted to be able to play today,” he told the club website.

“At Blackburn I’ve been working hard and going in to train pretty much every day because I haven’t been playing. I’ve been doing the extras to allow myself to be fitter when I get the chance to play.”

Samuelsen’s limited exposure to first team football at Blackburn did little to slow his progress and he made his international debut while on loan.

He marked his maiden appearance with a goal in the 4-1 win over minnows San Marino, but nonetheless felt Blackburn couldn’t offer him what he required to progress.

“Martin’s family felt that he wanted to be starting games and at this moment in time we couldn’t guarantee him that,” Rovers manager Owen Coyle explained in a club statement.

“So we agreed that it was in his best interest to return to West Ham. He’s a great lad and we wish him well.”
