Whilst it’s never nice to see somebody lose their job, the axing of Alberto Cavasin on Wednesday gives a faint glimmer of hope that we can still turn our season around, said Fan’s view correspondent Laurie Hann.

It’s pleasing that Andy Edwards has been given the manager’s job until the end of the season. He’s done a fantastic job building up the academy and it has resulted in a number of youth products featuring in the first team squad over the last few weeks.

He showed in his last spell as caretaker manager he has the ability to organise the side. The performance at home to Plymouth was one of the most spirited I’ve seen from an Orient side in the last couple of years and it was evident that the players were keen to play for the manager.

That is something that had been lacking over the last few weeks under Cavasin. It was hardly surprising given the lack of encouragement shown from the touchline and it was known that the language barrier was proving to be a challenge too.

What is important for Edwards to succeed in the job is that he is allowed to be given free reign over the first team matters and involvement from members of the hierarchy at the club is stopped.

A number of former managers have said recently how there was involvement in first team policy from the powers above and the hindrance that it had at the time. If Edwards is allowed to just focus on managing the team and not deal with any external involvement then we have a squad, and I am confident a manager too, that is capable of climbing up the league.

Edwards also needs to be given time to grow into the role. It can’t be heavily expected of him for results to be turned around quickly. Confidence amongst the squad is low and it is important that rather than another trigger firing, he should be given time to build his own squad and slowly instil belief back into the side.

He has shown that he has the trust of the players and has proven before that he is tactically astute as well so there are already encouraging signs for the coming weeks and months ahead.

Looking on social media, the decision to give Edwards the job has already given some belief back to the fans and it is important now both the team and the fans pull together now to turn around what has so far been the season from hell.

If he can start to put together any sort of run of form at home, that should be enough to find ourselves climbing up the league. The league table is still very tight and a good run of results could see any team finding themselves near the top of the table in no time.

Hopefully, that team will be Orient, fingers crossed for a positive result on Saturday away at Doncaster Rovers.
