Leyton Orient managed to steal a 1-1 draw against Cambridge United with things looking to have changed at E10 under Andy Edwards.

Harrison Dunk scored the only goal for the visitors with United boss Shaun Derry left rueing over his side’s inability to find a second.

Ollie Palmer was the hero of the hour when he found the back of the net in stoppage time of the second half.

The O’s are now three games unbeaten at Brisbane Road with the O’s faithful celebrating a happy New Year.

It was a scrappy start to the game with Cambridge causing the Orient defence some trouble but Sandro Semedo was on hand to clear any danger.

Paul McCallum had Orient’s first chance of the game when he got up well to meet a Michael Collins free-kick but his headed shot was easily saved by Will Norris.

Luke Berry caused the O’s defence some problems and sent in a sizzling cross but Uche Ikpeazu just missed the ball.

The O’s displayed some lovely football when Gavin Massey left two players for dust and found McCallum who slotted the ball for Semedo but both of his chances were saved.

And it was not before long the U’s, who were on a five-game winning streak, unbeaten in eight, broke the deadlock when Dunk slotted home from close range after Myles Judd had stopped Berry.

The hosts had to make an early substitution after Teddy Mezague looked as though he had pulled his groin and Yvan Erichot came on to replace him.

In what continued to be one-way traffic Berry played a terrific ball out to Piero Mingoia, the winger put in a cross but it was headed out by Collins and the corner came to nothing.

Early on in the second half, Orient had to make another injury substitution when Sam Dalby went down with an ankle injury to be replaced by Ollie Palmer.

Collins whipped in a dangerous corner which dropped in front of Atangana but Leon Legge did enough to clear.

Cambridge managed to counter from the corner as Ikpeazu bullied his way into the area but the shot went straight at Cisak.

And there was a let off for the E10 club when Ikpeazu found the back of the net but he was called for offside.

Unfortunately, there was a third injury based sub when Semedo made way for Josh Koroma.

Orient almost equalised with 20 minutes to play when McCallum met Collin’s free-kick but Norris was able to get a final touch to make a vital save.

In the dying minutes of the game, McCallum volleyed a shot just wide of the post it what was one of their best chances of the half.

But Cambridge’s winning run came to end after Palmer rifled a right-footed shot into the back of the net for the point.
