West Ham United flop Simone Zaza accepts he is to blame for his failure to perform at London Stadium.

The Italian’s goalless 11 game spell with the Hammers came to an end on Sunday as he agreed to join La Liga side Valencia on loan until the end of the season.

He describes his stay with West Ham as a tough time and admitted his own negativity prevented him from settling in the Premier League.

“When I joined from Juventus I was very optimistic, I wanted to experience playing in England because I thought it was the football that I liked and where I could use my qualities,” he said.

“Everything started badly from the outset, I think the main blame lies with me because I was not right mentally, I was very negative and in all the things that happened I never saw the positive side.

“There was an atmosphere, a culture very different to mine. That was a problem.

“Now that I am here [in Valencia] I feel bad not to have shown England what I am capable of.”

West Ham would have had to sign Zaza permanently had he played 14 times for the club, but were unwilling to do so.

Valencia will be obliged to pay £14m for the 25-year-old should he feature 10 times before the end of the season and Valencia avoid relegation.
