West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has hailed the team performance which saw the Irons secure a 3-1 win against Southampton on Saturday.

The Hammers came from a goal behind to earn a victory on the South Coast, which takes them up to ninth in the Premier League table.

Sullivan was delighted with the whole teams’ efforts, but saved particular praise for United captain Mark Noble, who marked a strong performance by scoring the deflected third goal.

“I thought it was a great team performance, with no one player outstanding, just a great team performance,” Sullivan wrote in his weekly column on the Hammers website.

“We were very professional and took our chances when we created them.

“While it was a win that was achieved because everybody played well, I thought Mark Noble was man of the match and thoroughly deserved his goal to top it off.”

The win at St Mary’s was made all the more satisfying considering West Ham were comfortably beaten 3-0 when the sides met at London Stadium in September.

Slaven Bilic’s next two games come against sides, in West Brom and Watford, who both enjoyed 4-2 wins over the East Londoners earlier in the campaign.

Sullivan is, therefore, hopeful the Hammers can use the role reversal against the Saints as inspiration for their upcoming encounters.

“Southampton beat us 3-0 at home earlier in the season, which shows how much our form has improved, compared with how we were playing at the start of the season,” he said.

“Our next two Premier League games are against teams that bashed us in the first half of the season – West Brom beat us 4-2 and Watford by the same score at London Stadium.

“We’ve won six out of our previous nine league matches, though, so bring them on.”
