Waltham Abbey secured back-to-back wins in the Ryman League North Division after they defeated Wroxham 4-0.

Abbey were on top in the early stages of the match but were unable to capitalise on their early pressure.

It was Wroxham who had the first chance to open the scoring when Jack Newman’s effort went narrowly wide of the post from 20 yards out.

But the hosts’ Blake Saker made a defensive mistake in the eighth minute which allowed Gregory Moorse to run onto the loose ball.

He drove towards the penalty area and fired the ball into the right hand corner of the net to put his side a goal up.

Abbey’s Billy Holland had a chance to double his side’s lead but Elliot Pride got down well to make the save.

Waltham scored their second goal after Ben Lewis fouled Moorse just outside the area and Macauley Jones scored the resulting free-kick.

The visitors added their third of a convincing first-half display after 23 minutes when Darrelle Russell chipped the ball over Pride.

The second half started much like the first as Abbey continued to pressure the Yachtsmen.

Ajani Carrington scored the fourth to ensure an emphatic victory.

In the Essex Senior League, there was a mixed bag of results for Ilford after they lost 3-1 to Basildon United on Saturday following their mid-week win.

Ryan Ramsay’s goal in the eighth minute was not enough for Ilford as their opponents netted through Nathan Dewberry, Paul Shave and Reece Tranter.

Ramsay’s game was to come to a premature end as he was sent off in the 37th minute.

There had been a better result for Ilford last Wednesday as they won 2-1 over FC Romania.

Isaac Nkosi and Lindsipho Mtyanda were both on the scoresheet for the victors.

Wadham Lodge continued their run of good form as they secured a 3-0 victory against London Bari.

Larry Asare, Jordan Meikle and Vladut Gabriel Sighiartau all scored one apiece to earn the three points.

It was also a good week for Lodge’s league counterparts Waltham Forest after they defeated Haringey & Waltham 3-1.

Barkingside had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Burnham Ramblers with Sam Edwards and Marvin Birch scoring their goals.

At the time of going to press, Barkingside were set to face Eton Manor on Wednesday evening in a League Cup fixture.

Redbridge also had a good Saturday after they won 3-1 against Southend Manor.

In the other Wednesday night fixtures, Ilford were due to make the trip to London Bari, while Lodge faced Enfield 1893.
