Gavin Massey will be on cloud nine this week after scoring three and gaining the Goal of the Month award for January.

But the winger insists he is staying focused on helping the O's fight out of this relegation battle.

The 24-year-old scored two in Orient's 3-2 win over Plymouth Argyle and found the back of the net to gain a vital point against Yeovil Town last weekend.

With Plymouth boss Derek Adams claiming the referee was at fault for not sending one of Orients players off, the winger felt in the second half the E10 club were the better team.

He said: “We have an attitude now where we have nothing to lose. The referee wasn’t giving us much, but we are used to it because it has been like that most weeks.

“Plymouth had the crowd behind them, but the more the game went on, I felt my influence was growing and the team started to believe. The chances kept on coming, so the win is nothing less than we deserve.”

Orient now sit level on points with Cheltenham and one behind Notts County after gaining four points out of their last two matches.

Since Danny Webb has taken over in the dugout, performances have been a lot more positive.

With County visiting later today, it is all to play for in who survives to remain in League Two.

“In the first couple of games the new gaffer was involved in, the results were disappointing and not what we wanted, but the performances had been really good,” said Massey.

“For him to keep our spirits high, even when we’ve felt rock bottom, it's credit to him and now we have got the win at Plymouth.

“I think we could have got 12 points from the last four matches, but that’s been our luck this season, although it is only us who can get the club out of this mess.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday and we want game after game now because you don’t get a much better feeling than winning like we did at Plymouth.”

When speaking to the Waltham Forest Guardian, Massey was asked about his new found partnership with Michael Collins and the midfield.

"The gaffer changed my role on Tuesday, but I think I’m always going to be a winger," he added.

“I was up front at Plymouth and Myles (Judd) and I have a good relationship on the right, but it was different this time.

“I had to link up with midfielders and (Sam) Dalby and the wingers, but being a wide man I know what they are going to do, so I think it worked well.”

Cheltenham visits the following week to the Matchroom Stadium with an away trip to Newport County and Accrington Stanley still to come.

And the former Colchester player stressed the importance of these upcoming fixtures.

“We haven’t climbed the table after Tuesday, but we have gathered a few points on rival clubs. A few results have helped us, but the main thing is Saturday now,” said Massey.

“Notts County visit and it’s a massive match and as good the Plymouth win felt, it is only a stepping stone.

“I don’t know how many games we have left this season, but we have to keep putting in more performances like Tuesday to get us out of this mess.

“Obviously at home, it has been difficult, but of late it has been better and that is because we have been putting in performances and the fans have been sticking with us.

“Top teams like Carlisle United have come to us and we’ve matched them and we should probably have got the points.

“Every manager seems to come out and say ‘Orient shouldn’t be in the bottom two and something’s wrong’ but that’s where we are and we’re the only ones that can get us out of this mess.”

The game kicks off at 3pm today.
