Leyton Orient boss Danny Webb was left disappointed after his Leyton Orient side spurned their early chances to end up losing 1-0 to relegation rivals Cheltenham.

Carl Winchester scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute as he buried the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Callum Kennedy could have levelled the scores after Gavin Massey was brought down in the penalty box but Scott Brown made the save of the match when he tipped the ball out for a corner.

Webb said: “I think you get three or four of those chances on a plate and you are thinking the fourth one will go in or the fifth one.

“And when they don’t go in unfortunately in the back of your mind you feel the worst and they get a goal which optimised the goals we have conceded over the season.

“A long ball that is not dealt with initially, people not tracking their runners and it was a good finish, they get their tails up and get that goal it is very difficult to get back.

“Blessing in disguise you get that penalty and obviously that is missed and then the whole vibe of the place is down at the knees and I can understand that today.”

The O’s are still in the drop zone following today’s loss with The Robins now six points clear of the drop zone.

When asked if the missed penalty was a pivotal point in the match he said: “I think when you are down there and the season they have had it’s only so many punches in the stomach you can take.

“And over the season some of them have been self-inflicted. But recently they have shown real character and togetherness and some good play.

“I just feel after that penalty miss you could just see the heads went a little bit. And they did keep going but I think there was not that belief here today that thought we would get something after that.”

A lot was made of these back-to-back home games against fellow relegation strugglers with Orient taking nothing from both.

“I think it is more devastating we have not got a point out of the two really,” said Webb about whether these losses were devastating or not.

“I keep saying the squad, the injuries, the youngsters coming in but those youngsters who have played have shown they are up to it.

“And even today Michael Clark has come on and was excellent. I have got to as a manager have to look at those positives and put my arm around those young lads and make sure Michael Clark gets a pat on the back for having a good game.

“To try and not let the whole result sort of bring too many people down. But it is about the results and we have had two games and got nothing from them.

“Especially after the Notts County, where the performance was excellent and the whole vibe was positive, today while I do not think it was a poor performance, it was self-inflicted due to our missed chances.”

Webb also revealed he would not be bringing in any players: “I think that is something that won’t happen.

“I have been made to understand that it won’t be happening. As I say I have to put my attention on the players I have got and try my best to keep their heads up.”
