Leyton Orient succumbed to a 4-1 loss at the hands of Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

Goals from Ben Kennedy, Matt Godden, Luke Wilkinson and Tom Pett were enough to send the hosts into the League Two play-off spots.

The Boro came into the game on a six-game unbeaten run and Paul McCallum gaining a consolation for the 682 travelling O’s faithful.

Danny Webb will be without winger Gavin Massey when his side travel to Newport County as he picked up his 10th yellow card of the season.

Fraser Franks had the first go on the game when he tried his luck from the edge of the area but he saw his shot deflected behind for a corner which was cleared.

Stevenage had two chances in quick succession but Michael Clark threw himself in front of a Tom Pett shot on the edge of the area.

Seconds later, Ben Kennedy spurned a great chance to open the scoring for the hosts in the 12th minute when he curled an effort wide of the far post from inside the box.

Two minutes later, The Boro continued to up the pressure but Clark was once again well-positioned to clear a low cross from Franks.

Stevenage eventually got the breakthrough when Pett crossed in for Kennedy who drove into the area and headed the ball home.

Two minutes later, Nicky Hunt gave away a penalty against Wilkinson and Godden smashed the ball home from the penalty spot, scoring his 17th of the season.

But in Orient's first clear-cut chance of the game McCallum headed home a Michael Collins free-kick into the top corner to cut the deficit.

Massey should have gained the equaliser after Josh Koroma rolled the ball across to the winger but he could only find the side-netting.

In what was another good move from Orient, Semedo controlled the ball well but fired a deflected shot over. The resulting corner came to nothing.

Four minutes before the end of the half, former Orient man Jobi McAnuff delivered a decent corner which was met by Jack King but he powered his header into the ground and over the bar.

And into injury time, Massey produced an excellent break and linked up well with Myles Judd and Josh Koroma.

The latter was denied by Chris Day who spilled the ball but no one was on hand to grab onto the loose ball.

Orient’s promising finish at the end of the first did not carry into the second with Stevenage doubling their advantage once again after Wilkinson headed home from a McAnuff cross.

Godden looked to make it four in the 52nd minute when he got onto the end of a long ball but he lashed a shot into the side netting.

McAnuff caused the O’s all sorts of problems and his low cross was met by Franks but his shot came back out off the crossbar.

Pett made it four for the home side from 12-yards out. Sargeant made the initial save but Hunt failed to keep the ball out.

Massey produced a superb effort in the 66th minute but Day was equal to the effort and pushed the shot away.

A minute later, Orient had the ball into the back of the net but Koroma was penalised for a soft foul on Day.

The O’s had a chance after chance and substitute Freddie Moncur turned well and picked out Judd who had a cross put behind for a corner.

Orient then appealed for a penalty from the resulting corner but nothing was given.

Massey managed to drill an effort goalwards but once again it was pushed away by Day at his near post.

Godden should have extended his side's lead to five but his first-time shot was deflected wide with 15 minutes left to play.

Orient had opportunities to score a second but it was not to be as Stevenage claimed all three points.
