Consistency is key for any professional sportsman and it is for this reason Sam Byram is eager to for the international break to come to a close.

The Hammers headed into the enforced fortnight hiatus on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Leicester City, which extended their winless Premier League run to five games.

This poor form makes the lack of games especially frustrating for Byram, and he is quick to stress the need to perform well when returning to action against Hull City on Saturday.

“We need to get points on the board, so for me, it’s frustrating to have to wait two weeks until the next game,” Byram told the club website.

“I wish we had a game sooner so we could put it right and build on our second half performance against Leicester.”

The visit to KCOM Stadium could provide the ideal chance for West Ham to get back to winning ways as they take on a Tigers side struggling in the relegation zone.

Hull’s need for wins – they are currently three points shy of safety – means Byram is taking nothing for granted against Marco Silva’s side.

He said: “It’s getting towards the end of the season and teams like Hull need points as well, so no game is easy at this time of the year.

“We’ll do what we can to make sure we can come away with three points.”

Byram has been used intermittently by the London Stadium club this season and has struggled to pin down a regular starting berth.

The 23-year-old, who provides natural attacking impetus at full-back, admits he has found a lack of consistent starts challenging and is constantly looking to hone his game.

“It was over a month between my last two starts and I think I am a bit rusty, but I think I grew into the Leicester game,” he said.

“I like to get forward and express myself, obviously there are things I can improve on and I’ll keep working on everything and kick on from there.

“You see the way we play with the two midfielders sitting and the full-backs high and wide and it does suit me down to a tee. I just need to keep going and see where I can help out.”
