Omer Riza said his Leyton Orient side produced a performance to be proud of in their 2-2 draw against Luton Town.

Liam Kelly and Tristan Abrahams both scored to ensure the O’s went back to London with a point as Danny Hylton and Isaac Vassell scored the Hatter’s replies.

Orient, who could have been relegated today if Hartlepool and Cheltenham Town both won, still sit bottom of the table on 33 points but go into Monday’s game against Hartlepool with that little ray of confidence.

The Hatters did not know how to deal with the vibrant youth in the final 45 and it showed as the O’s almost gained a winner through Josh Koroma in injury time.

Riza said: “The boys were fantastic. We knew coming to Luton would be a tough game, they are trying to push for promotion and to come here and get something out of the game, I would have taken a point before walking in here all day long.

“We struggled the first 15-20 minutes, we had to find our feet and change the system. Again because the lack of players we had at our disposal, no disrespect to our players that played as they were superb.

“But you can only play certain systems with the players you have got, in terms of what they are good at and what they are not and you have to adjust accordingly.

“We went in 1-0 down, we got hit with a sucker punch I thought, even though they had more possession than us, I think we had quite good control of what is going on.

“We got hit with a sucker punch, went in at half-time and I just said it is only 1-0 and we have not done that bad.

“I changed a few things, changed the system back the way I wanted too as I thought we were comfortable towards the end of the first half.

“I do not think they could deal with it. We had a lot more possession, we penetrated them a little bit more and the key was trying to get the ball into the box to get shots off so at least it’s causing the problem for the keeper.

“And I think we did that and we got our just rewards.”

When asked on how much of a boost this result gives them and ending their six-match losing streak the 37-year-old said: “Just from the talk in there you could see they were proud.

“The senior players were proud of the youngsters, you could see the youngsters were proud of themselves which is something you want to see.

“Because they have had a tough time and it has been tough for everyone but like I say once you cross that line of 90 minutes of football you forget everything for a time.

“And I think they did that today, they should be very proud of themselves.”

Orient take on Hartlepool on Monday at Brisbane Road (3pm kick-off) in a relegation battle clash.

The Pools drew 1-1 with Carlisle United and all eyes will be on the Matchroom stadium come Easter Monday.
