Omer Riza was left devastated after his side were relegated out of the Football League for the first time in 112-years following a 3-0 defeat at Crewe Alexandra.

Callum Ainley, Ryan Wintle and George Cooper were all on the scoresheet to impact the misery onto the 407 travelling O’s faithful.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the youth players who have been thrown into the deep end of trying to keep the club up since January.

June 12th remains an all-important date as Orient are due to appear at High Court once again following their stay of execution from the winding-up petition they were served on March 1.

It was believed the club owed HMRC around £125,000-£250,000. Owner Francesco Becchetti has since paid that bill but other creditors have now taken over the petition.

When asked how disappointed he was in the manor of relegation Riza said: “Crewe are a good side, they play attractive football, and they are patient on the ball.

“They were better than us today and it was not just in possession. Out of possession they worked very hard, they pressed us, did not allow us to play and we were the opposite.

“We did not keep the ball long enough, we did not make options available for each other and in order to get up the field and create opportunities you need to get up the field.

“For me, especially for the youngsters, it was a lesson in respect of there are two sides to the game.

“That is in respect of out of possession you need to work hard when the ball breaks down and in possession, you have to have better quality.

“But I have nothing against my players they have been brilliant.”

Next week will be four weeks since loyal backroom staff and the players have not been paid if they are still yet to receive payment for March.

Their April wages are due on Friday, April 28.

The O’s have two more games left to play out in their Football League season as they take on Colchester United and Blackpool.

“It has affected everybody at the club,” said Riza when if the players have been affected by the off-field situation.

“It is a disappointing time when you are not being paid and some people deal with it in different ways.

“It has just unsettled everybody and it has been tough it is a big factor. The whole season has been a big factor in regards to what has gone on.

“But the boys in the last few performances have got out onto the pitch and they have put in some good performances.

“Today, if you look at the football it just was not their day.”

The 37-year-old added he'd like to go meet with the chairman (Francesco Becchetti) and have a chat to see what the situation is.

Orient face Colchester at Brisbane Road on Saturday, April 29 in their final home game of the season (3pm kick-off).
