Having spent much of the season watching on from the sidelines, Adrian is understandably pleased to be back in the West Ham side and keeping clean sheets.

A 0-0 draw against Stoke City last time out was the Spaniard’s second shutout in succession since being recalled for Darren Randolph against Everton on April 22.

The 30-year-old was full of praise for his teammates in the wake of Saturday’s stalemate, which keeps the Hammers seven points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

He told the club website: “The Premier League is never easy, and it’s always difficult, but we showed today we are a solid team and defended very well.

“It’s not just about the defenders, it started at the strikers. Today we were a little bit unlucky that we couldn’t score that one goal and get the three points.

“It is very difficult to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League, and we have two in two games. We want to win as many games as possible now “We have two big games left at home now – Tottenham and Liverpool – very hard, but two good games and we need to keep this solid defending so we can keep getting points.”

Adrian lost his place as the Hammers number one in November after a number of costly errors but has battled back to regain a starting spot.

While he was frustrated by Slaven Bilic’s decision, Adrian has remained focused throughout the spell on the bench.

“It was difficult waiting to play obviously,” he said. “I am a professional so it’s been hard the last few months but at the end of the day, we are a team.

“Darren and I work hard together every day, and yes, we are good friends. It’s not just us – there is Rapha [Spiegel] and the young goalkeepers too”
