Michael Gash and Josh Taylor, two trialists who played for Leyton Orient in their 6-1 win over Harlow Town on Saturday, have left the club.

Taylor had been expected to start last night's 10-0 thrashing of Burnham Ramblers, but had already departed Brisbane Road with a new winger expected to sign "in the very near future".

And former Barnet striker Gash has also been deemed surplus to requirements, as a long-term injury he picked up at The Hive last season will keep him from full fitness for some time.

Assistant head coach Ross Embleton said he had been impressed with both players' efforts during their brief spells with the club, but that careful consideration had concluded that the duo would not be kept on.

“Michael isn’t being considered and has moved on,” he revealed.

“He worked really hard and settled into the group, but his injury from last season means we would have been waiting too long to get him back to the level we need him to be.

“Josh wasn’t involved yesterday either because although he had a good game at the weekend, with the players we have got and who should be coming in on the wing in the very near future, there wasn’t space for him.

“We also have to be conscious of smothering young players’ routes to the first-team, and we don’t want to do that.

“We’ll be making some quick decisions about the trialists who played at Burnham so we can get ready for the new season starting in the best way.”
