Leyton Orient continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win over Billericay Town.

Macauley Bonne continued his fine pre-season form when he netted the opener with just seven minutes on the clock, before Jake Caprice doubled the lead with a fine strike.

New signing Josh Coulson, who arrived from a Cambridge United on a loan which runs until January on Friday, was named in the starting line-up.

The O’s started brightly and tested the Billericay defence early on when Jobi McAnuff’s free-kick bounced across the face of goal in the fifth minute.

They wouldn’t have to wait long for the go-ahead goal, however, as two minutes later as Bonne connected with Caprice’s cross to head home.

Carprice added to his assist with a goal of his own midway through the first period after he played a neat one-two with Romauld Boco and finished with a fierce drive.

The lead was cut shortly before the interval when Sam Deering’s header got the better of Charlie Grainger, who had produced two smart saves earlier in the half, in the O’s goal.

Billericay were inches from levelling the scores soon after the restart, but were denied by the upright.

The home side were enjoying the better of the game and Deering was next to try his luck, but saw his effort deflect wide.

Orient reacted well to the two chances and Bonne looked set to double his tally for the afternoon when he turned smartly in the box.

The forward, who signed for the club earlier this summer, was denied by a last-ditch challenge as he set himself to shoot.

Lady luck was smiling on the O’s and the post came to their rescue once again when Jake Robinson’s header beat Grainger with 17 minutes remaining.

They would get a taste of their own medicine moments later though as one of two trialists in the match day squad clipped the woodwork from a free-kick.

It mattered little in the end as the O’s held out for the win. They will look to carry the form into their final pre-season outing against Arsenal Under-23s on Tuesday.
