Eton Manor continued their London One North campaign with a local grudge match against early pace-setters Chingford.

Both sides came into the games in high spirits after Manor beat Saffron Walden 50-29 and Chingford hammered Old Priorians 87-3 on the opening weekend.

It would be the visitors who left with their perfect record still in tact as a commanding display saw them ease to a 39-5 victory.

It took them just eight minutes to assert their dominance with a converted Tom Lowry try.

A further score from Cameron Meakin and two penalties from Scott Meakin put them well in the ascendency at the break.

A second half in which Manor failed to really lay a glove on Chingford saw David Ogufere and Josh Porter both go over, before Lowry added his second try of the bonus-point win.

The result leaves Chingford clear at the top of the table with a maximum of 10 points and a hugely impressive points difference of 118, 81 more than their closest challengers Fullerians.

They will hope to continue their run against North Walsham on Saturday while Manor will look to return to winning ways when they travel to Ruislip.

Epping Upper Clapton got their London Two North East campaign off to a less than satisfactory start as they fell to a 33-22 loss to Ipswich.

A positive pre-season in which many of the club’s colts – four of whom started on Saturday – came to the fore, gave way to pessimism inside two minutes as Ipswich raced into a 7-0 lead.

Epping responded in fine fashion though, and a well-worked set-piece allowed Mitch Sinfield to race in, before the extras were added to tie the scores.

The try boosted Epping’s confidence and they were soon ahead for the first time in the game with another converted try, which came after fine work from the forwards.

They took the advantage into the break, but Ipswich started the second period better to level the scores soon after the restart.

In a game which ebbed a flowed throughout it was Epping who again pulled away as a penalty from the metronomic boot of Mitch Din and a try in the corner for Nick Conway put them ahead once more.

Epping held their lead until a disastrous final 10 minutes which allowed Ipswich to turn the game on its head and snatch the win.

Ipswich produced their best rugby of the afternoon late in the day as their winger went over to put them ahead and a further converted try gave them an unassailable 11-point lead.

It was a frustrating way for a promising afternoon to end, and Epping will hope to lift themselves in time for the visit of Wanstead for their first home game of the season on Saturday.

Their opponents will arrive at the match in high spirits after a contrasting opening weekend in which they cruised to a 42-21 win over Harlow.

The bonus-point win means Wanstead sit fourth after the first set of fixtures, while Epping will be looking for their first point of the campaign from the clash.

Elsewhere, Woodford got their season off to a losing start as they went down to a 38-14 defeat at the hands of Romford & Gidea Park.

Their next game sees them face early league leaders Old Cooperians.

Wanstead Under-15s as they secured a 31-14 win against a well-drilled Harlow side.

Wanstead were the better side throughout as tries from Dylan West (2), Brandon Smith, Sid Robinson and Peter Oriakhi added to three Harry Turner conversions to complete the win.
