Martin Ling has praised the impact of Leyton Orient owners Nigel Travis and Kent Teague since their take-over last summer, claiming their enthusiasm is ‘unrivalled.’

Travis and Teague completed their takeover last June after a tumultuous season for the O’s, which saw them relegated from the Football League for the first time in 112-years after finishing bottom of League 2.

The O’s misery was further compounded when they ended up in the High Court last June under former owner Francesco Becchetti and with just nine players on the club’s books, the O’s future was looking bleak until the arrival of Travis and Teague.

Since their arrival, the O’s have certainly made strides in the right direction both on and off the pitch, with the club now looking upwards under Justin Edinburgh after finishing in 13th place in the National League last season.

Orient finished the campaign in good form, losing just two of their last eight games and having the best defensive record in the league under Edinburgh.

Rewind to November and things weren’t looking so promising, with Steve Davis being sacked after the O’s won just five of their first 19 league games, leaving them in 19th place in the table.

One of Travis and Teague’s first decisions was to appoint former manager Ling as the club’s director of football, where he oversees the day-to-day running of the club as well as player recruitment, and the 51-year-old was full of praise for the O’s owners.

He said: “For me, it’s been really good. They are people who want the club to do well which is always a good starting base to work from. The enthusiasm of them both is unrivalled. It’s been a real pleasure to work with them.

“But also, the fact they have given me the trust to run the football side of this club. They have given me a budget to work with but also the trust to go out and run the football side of it. There’s been plenty to do and the fact my owners live in America means that there is more for me to do. I look after their ship on this side of the water and make sure everything is alright. We talk regularly and we have board calls where everyone is involved.

“It’s been a real pleasurable experience because they want what’s right for the club, but they are also understand that when it comes to football, they rely on me to give them the knowhow and advice on how the football club works and how it can work best for us as a football club.”
