ARSENAL will be placed on red-alert by the news that Miguel Veloso is preparing to quit Sporting Lisbon after helping them lift the Portuguese Cup at the weekend.
The 22-year-old Portugal international is according to reports the defensive midfielder Gunners boss Arsene Wenger seeks to replace the departed Mathieu Flamini with this summer.
"I do not know if this was my last game for Sporting," Veloso told reporters after Sporting beat Porto 2-0 in Sunday's final. "Let's see what the future holds for Miguel.
"England may be a good destination but I do not know anything about the offers."
Arsenal are likely to face stiff competition for Veloso's services though, as Manchester United are long time admirers of his talents, while Newcastle could also put in a bid for the midfielder.
