TOTTENHAM have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfan, who has opted for Germany instead.

The pacey PSV forward claims to have attracted interest from clubs in four countries but has decided his future lies with Bundesliga club Schalke.

Speaking in Peru, Farfan said: "I accepted the offer because I wanted to play in a more competitive league.

"I had offers from other clubs. There was an offer from Tottenham in England, another from Fiorentina in Italy and one more from a Russian club."

Farfan was a member of the PSV side that eliminated Spurs from last season's UEFA cup and impressed by scoring the winning goal in the first leg at White Hart Lane.

While the German club are yet to officially announce the deal, it is expected that he will sign for a fee of around 10million euros within the coming days.
