NEW Orient signing Simon Dawkins has revealed he is looking forward to his time at Brisbane Road, and insists he isn’t at the club just to make up the numbers, writes Craig Rodhouse.

Dawkins signed for the O's in an six month loan deal from Tottenham earlier in the summer and is looking forward to proving to Martin Ling that he doesn’t want to just to sit on the bench.

“I’ve come here to play and I want to rise to the opportunity,” stated Dawkins.

“All I’ve got to do is show the manager what I'm all about and when I get my chance I’ll try to take it “Orient is a wonderful club that’s full of young lads and likes to play football in the right way.”

And Dawkins – who recently had a double hernia operation – is looking forward to getting some first-team football with the east Londoners and trying to force himself into the frame at White Hart Lane.

He continued: “That’s part of my development. I’ve been out for quite a while and I haven’t had as much football as I would like.

“I’ve come here to play first team football and see where it goes from there and I’m happy to be back playing.

“Of course I’m still signed to Tottenham but I'm here to do well and keep playing.”

Dawkins hasn’t ruled out extending his loan deal with the O’s, should his six month spell with Martin Ling’s side be successful.

He added: “The club’s full of young players and it’s good that the manager is encouraging them to come here, because a lot of clubs don’t.

“I’m here for six months, but after that we’ll sit down and see what Tottenham want to do.”
