TOTTENHAM have joined the chase for West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand.
The 23-year-old's future with the east Londoners is in some doubt after he reportly turned down an improved contract offer earlier this summer.
That has alerted a number of clubs, including Newcastle and Sunderland.
And the Black Cats are believed to be leading the race after having an offer - thought to be in the region of £6million-£8million - accepted by the Hammers.
However, Spurs are closely monitoring the situation.
Sporting director Damien Comolli is said to be a huge admirer of Ferdinand, while boss Juande Ramos is keen to bolster his defence with experienced cover.
Peckham-born Ferdinand, a lifelong Hammers supporter who has been at Upton Park since he was a child, has made 161 league and cup appearances and scored five goals for the club since making his debut in August 2003.
