Prem star trades the wing for the ring

JUST a week after England’s cricketers visited a local boxing club to try their arms in the ring, another big name from the world of sport has pulled on the gloves.

Sunderland winger and former Manchester United player Kieran Richardson has been taking lessons from Walthamstow boxing trainer Noel Tierney ahead of the new football season.

The Black Cats star climbed through the ropes and was put through a series of vigorous exercises, before he sparred with Tierney and local athlete Neil Simpson.

Richardson is no stranger to Waltham Forest, as he was one of a number of current professionals who graduated from Walthamstow-based youth club Interwood.
