Daggers swoop to land ex-Ipswich star Currie

DAGENHAM & Redbridge have snapped up former Ipswich Town midfielder Darren Currie on a month's loan deal, with a view to a permanent transfer, to be completed in January.

The 34-year-old, who has joined the Daggers from Chesterfield, has made over 400 appearances in the Football League since he found his way as a trainee at West Ham.

He has built a reputation as one of the lower league's finest players and has enjoyed successful spells with Wycombe Wanderers, Barnet and Ipswich throughout his career.

Currie has been handed the number 17 shirt by Dagenham and he will go straight into the squad to face Bournemouth on Tuesday.

The Daggers have the option of signing the midfielder on an 18-month contract at the end of his loan spell.

The signing of Currie is a trademark move by manager John Still, who has won plenty of admirers for his ability to resurrect stalling careers, as well as kick-start those from the lower leagues.

The likes of Peter Gain and Stuart Thurgood have all proved to be success stories for the Victoria Road outfit after their best days were seemingly behind them.
