THE O’s made it back-to-back wins with a victory in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, on Wednesday night.
Ex-Seagull Dean Cox thumped the opening goal to put Orient ahead at the Withdean Stadium, on 21 minutes.
Then just two minutes into the second half, Ryan Jarvis got his head on the end a Matt Spring free kick.
Later, the hosts saw a penalty saved by O's keeper Jamie Jones, who produced another impressive between the sticks.
But it had been a different start to this Johnstone's Paint Trophy round one tie.
The O’s made a slow start and found themselves walking a disciplinary tightrope with Elliot Omozusi, Matthew Spring and debutant defender, Aaron Brown, being shown yellow cards.
Brown’s caution for an innocent-looking challenge on Ashley Barnes bizarrely led to the opening goal of this enthralling cup-tie.
Adam Chambers huge clearing header set skipper Stephen Dawson off on the break, which Cox finished with his driving shot, via a Tommy Elphick deflection that deceived keeper Casper Ankergren and flew into the roof of the Albion net.
But there was no wild celebrations by the ex-Seagull though, who just jogged back to the halfway line.
Gus Poyet's team went on the attack in search of an equaliser, but Ryan Jarvis' quashed hopes of an equaliser with his header.
At 2-0 the tie should have been safe. But, the O’s almost shot themselves in the foot when a clumsy tackle by Brown on Glenn Murray in the box offered Brighton a way back into the tie.
Up stepped Murray, but Jones guessed correctly and made a superb block to cap a great night on the south coast.
