BARRY Hearn, the self-styled 'benign dictator' in charge of Leyton Orient, is in high spirits now a first league win is on the board.
And knowing as the chairman does how fickle football is, Hearn refuted mock rumours that the 3-0 scoreline last weekend against Exeter City was not high enough for him.
“There's no truth to the rumour I'm going to sack the manager because we only got three goals”, joked Hearn, ahead of the trip to Dagenham and redbridge for the east London derby this weekend.
“So let's leave him in there for a couple more weeks and see how he gets on!
“You can see his enthusiasm and I want to bottle it as its infectious,” he continued.
“He's got the players believing in themselves.
“I'm just enjoying watching them as the fans are. Football always ends in tears, as we know, but we have good days which make it worth while supporting a little club like Orient.”
“We've played some good football without getting the results, and kept possession without having the cutting edge to score goals.
“(Against Exeter) we were back at our level and we're not a bad team at this level. The squad are in danger of getting bonuses if they go like this, which will probably be the end of this club as we know it.”
“We start off every season looking for survival, we look at the bottom four and try and avoid it. This year maybe were looking higher up. But there's no point giving Orient expectations.”
