CRISIS-HIT Leyton FC has been rocked by the exit of boss Gordon Boateng.

Reports say chairman Tony Hardy and club secretary Steve Bellanoff have also left the club.

Suspension from Ryman League one north last week was followed by the club's resignation from the league in an email to league chairman Alan Turvey from Louise Sophocleous, relation of former Leyton supremo Costas Sophocleous.

The move sparked a flurry of departures at all levels of the club in Lea Bridge Road.

The entire playing squad has quit as well, Boateng told Guardian Series Sport.

The extraordinary meltdown of Leyton FC was triggered by its ban this month from the league for non-payment of subscriptions.

Now the future of the club could be at stake without funding to pay the league.

The bleak probability of no games for the remainder of the season made players’ minds up.

“It is a very sad time at the club,” said Boateng, who was left without a team to manage after a squad meeting, last week.

“After learning the actual financial situation and that they would not play football anytime soon, the players all decided it was also best to leave and seek football elsewhere.

“That left me and my management team with the rug being pulled from under our feet and having no choice but to also depart.

“There is no point in anyone staying without any football being played, especially without guarantees that Leyton FC will kick another ball in the Ryman League this season.

“This decision wasn’t taken lightly,” said Boetang, who called a “massive shame” the deep problems blighting the club.

“The reason me and my team came to lowly Leyton was to help the club find its feet and build again, stabilise the team and get back up the league.”

“The future of the club is up in the air and only time will tell what the outcome will be,” he added.
