THE Olympic Games Handball Arena was officially completed yesterday in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Arena, in the North section of the Olympic Park in Stratford, is now the third venue to be finished ahead of the Games in 2012.
Mr Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg visited the site and spoke to apprentices who had helped to build the venue before announcing new measures to help youth employment.
Mr Cameron said: “That this great venue has been completed on time and within budget is testament to the hard work, expertise and skills of the Olympic Park workforce. We are on track to stage a fantastic Olympic and Paralympic Games in London next summer.”
The arena includes copper cladding, natural lighting shafts, multi-coloured seating and a retractable lower tier.
Construction work on the project began back in July 2009 and the Olympic Delivery Authority Chairman, John Armitt, said: “The Handball Arena milestone is another example of just how far we have come since construction started on the Olympic Park three years ago.”
