WALTHAM Forest Hockey Club hosted a 17-team competition in a bid to find the side who will represent the borough in the London Mini Games in July.

The hockey club held the competition on May 18 and 25, with 170 children taking part, and the winners of each day will now meet in the final at Walthamstow Academy on June 8.

The morning of both days were spent coaching the children, with a round-robin competition taking place in the afternoon.

The winners on May 18 was Our Lady and St George School, who beat Chingford C of E School by one point, and Chapel End School beat Wellington School in a competitive final on May 25.

Chapel End won the final on May 25.

This was the fourth time Waltham Forest Hockey Club have held the competition and due to their links in the area, provided coaching for seven of the teams over the last nine months.

Matt Lovell, youth co-ordinator at Waltham Forest, said: “The standard of hockey exhibited across the days were really strong and the winning team will stand every chance of bringing back gold for the borough of Waltham Forest in July.”
