Wanstead started the week with an impressive victory over a strong Connaught team in the Foresters League taking 13 points of the 15 points on offer.

The victory was mainly due to a fine win at home by John Pluck’s triple (26-10) with Ron Brown leading the way with some wonderful bowling taking the pressure off his team of Steve Forrest and skip Pluck.

The other home rink skipped by Bryan Kelly (16-19) did not fair so well but this left Wanstead victors overall at home by 13 shots and a 4-2 points success.

Away from home, Wanstead faired far better with Terry Batchelor’s triple (14-13) gaining a narrow victory and Alan Batchelor’s team (22-14) giving Wanstead the overall win by nine shots and all six points on offer.

This meant that Wanstead took the overall win home and away to give them 13 points and Connauight two points.

Wanstead played Redbridge in their final Crabb Wednesday evening triples league match at Overton Drive and came away with another convincing victory by 58 shots to 39 shots to cement their place in the top three.

The victory was secured by a resounding victory from Alan Batchelor’s triple (30-9) ably backed up by Terry Batchelor (24-17) and a close-fought success by Bryan Kelly (14-13) to give the home team an overall win and all seven points on offer.

The final game of the week was against high flying Barley in an Ilford and District League encounter in which Wanstead came away with a maximum of 13 points.

Pluck (22-8) continued his successful week with the main contribution to the victory helped by some great opening woods from Ian Robertson and fine support from Arthur Savage and Alan Edgar.

The other rinks were also again in fine form with Forrest (21-15) and Kelly (22-13) giving the home team the edge and overall victory by 65 shots to 36 shots and a full house of points.
