Bancroft School, Woodford Green, are toasting the success of one of their cricket teams after they picked up the Essex Cup last week.
The school’s Under 13s side claimed a 24-run success over King Edwards Grammar School, Chelmsford, in a final played in the best of spirits.
Bancroft made a slow start in the 30 over clash though and might have felt they had thrown their chance away after stumbling to 31 for four after 15 overs.
However, an unbeaten century partnership from George Margetson-Rushmore (53 not out) and Tom Oliver (33 not out) steadied the ship and steered them to a creditable 131 for four.
King Edwards made a flying start to their chase, striking several boundaries to reach 28 for one after just five overs.
However, following the fall of two quick wickets, Bancroft’s bowlers found their line and restricted their opponents’ run rate.
Wickets were falling as well and in the final over, Bancroft had Kings dismissed for 107 to claim the county title.
