Waltham Forest Ladies first XI were left to rue a missed penalty as they lost 2-0 at home to Bromley and Beckenham 2nd XI.
Forest started the first-half brightly and forced a short corner before any of the Bromley and Beckenham players had touched the ball. A smart save from the keeper denied the hosts from taking an early lead.
Chances were at a premium at both ends, with the game congested in the middle of the pitch. The deadlock was broken 10 minutes before half-time when a Bromley player was allowed into the area unchallenged and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Forest came out in the second half determined to make amends and, with Mandy Briggs probing down the right and Anna-Marie Perry down the left, Forest were starting to turn the screw.
The game's turning point arrived 15 minutes after the interval when the ball broke to Ayleen Duske who fired a low shot across the area. Katherine Abbie tipped the ball onto the post and Hannah Dobbin followed up only to find a Bromley foot on the line.
Ayleen Duske, making her first start of the season, stepped up to take the penalty flick but was denied by a smart save.
This proved to be decisive and, after a short stoppage for a blood injury, Bromley scored again with a low deflected effort from close range.
Next up for Forest is a double header with local rivals Upminster on Saturday and Havering in the cup on Sunday.
