Tottenham Hotspur advance in NextGen Series after seeing off Liverpool

Tottenham’s youngsters will meet either Ajax or Barcelona in the semi-final of the NextGen Series after they overcame Liverpool 1-0.

Shaq Coulthirst’s 70th minute strike proved the difference between the teams, meaning Spurs are now the only English side left in the competition.

The hosts made a bright start and could have taken an early lead but Jake Nicholson’s header was well dealt with by Tyrell Belford.

The Reds has the better chances in the opening period though but they were unable to open the scoring as Michael Ngoo and Raheem Sterling wasted chances.

Both sides were showing their creativity in the second period but it was not until 20 minutes from time that the game got a goal.

After Nabil Bentaleb had seen his effort saved, Coulthirst was the quickest to react as he pounced on the loose ball to find the net from close range.

Liverpool threw everything forward in search of an equaliser but despite dramatic late efforts from Sterling and Adam Morgan, they were unable to beat Jonathan Miles, as Spurs advanced to the semi-final.
