Children from the West Essex School Sports Partnership will be competing in eight sports at Davenant Foundation School this summer to mark the 2012 Olympic Games.

The West Essex SSP is made up of 43 schools and they will take part in the event on June 29 between 12.30 and 4.30pm.

This will be the first time that a multi-sport event has been held across the partnership with all schools being led by students aged between three and 19 years old.

The event will be opened by Olympic silver medallist Jamie Baulch. Also in attendance will be 100m Olympic finalist Jeanette Kwakye, and 400m European gold medallist Rhys Williams.

In true Olympic fashion, this event will begin with an opening ceremony in which each competitor will walk a lap of the stadium led by their nominated flag bearer. An Olympic torch (designed by secondary school engineering students) will be passed between representatives from each of the schools as dancers perform to two songs. Baulch will then declare the games open and all competitors will go to their events.

The sports in which the athletes are competing are handball, swimming, athletics, archery, table tennis, hockey, boccia, and a key stage one multisport event. The events are officiated by young leaders who are currently embarking on CSLA and Young Ambassador courses specifically tailored for this event and the sports they will be leading on the day. There are opportunities for businesses to get involved with the event in the form of advertising on the day. If you would like more information on how your business could get involved email David Harries at davidh@davenant.com or call 0208 498 6711.
