Old Loughtonians Under-16s scooped the England Hockey national finals title to claim the number one spot in the country.

Having previously won the East regional round, they faced the winning clubs from the North, Midlands and West regions at Cannock Hockey Club. First up they defeated Neston South Wirral 3-0 before beating host club and midlands champions Cannock 2-0. In the final group match the team eased to a 4-0 win over Wycombe.

Old Loughtonians progressed to Sunday's final against Belper and came out 5-2 winners. The club also had the accolade of James Seager being the top goal scorer in the competition with Rory Patterson second. Conor Caplan and captain William Godfrey were also on target in the tournament.

Many of the boys had been playing together from the age of seven and the majority of the team participated when they won the U-13 nationals in 2009.

The team was coached by Duane Robinson and Ian Padfield and managed by Kirsty McGregor.

Two of the boys, Godfrey and Caplan, will be off to Holland to represent England in the Four Nations this week.

The squad also featured Tim Coupe, Caleb Williams, James Padfield, Liam Appleyard, Andrew MacGregor, Daniel Samuel, Jack Head, Sai Johal, Rory Patterson, Harry Earnshaw, Chris Halls, Matthew Higgins and Albert Padfield.

Old Loughtonians U-16 Girls finished fourth at the finals which backed up their second place in the indoor finals earlier in the year.

The team lost the opener to defending champions Wakefield 3-2 despite leading after efforts from Chloe Menear and Emily Holmes. Late strikes from Wakefield sent them to a narrow defeat.

In the second match the team battled back for a 1-1 draw with Lichfield. Holmes proved the saviour as she netted with five minutes left to salvage a draw.

A 1-0 victory over Team Bath gave them a place in the third-place play-off after a clinical strike from Holmes.

But Loughtonians conceded twice in the first five minutes as they were beaten by Isca in their final match of the competition.

Coach Sean Holmes' team featured Nicole Hayes, Georgia O'Connor, Lizzie Wroblewski, Lucia Corry, Milly Mordrick and captain Hannah Bloy. Jade Gidney, Rayo Ladipo, Beccy Withams, Georgia Gidney, Katherine Hough and Annabel Smith also too part.

The U-14 Girls celebrated winning the East region final.

Their first game resulted in a 1-1 draw against Teddington. Tash Patient gave them the lead but they were pegged back in the second half. The second game saw them ease to a 4-0 victory over Norwich.

The final round robin match saw Loughtonians claim a 3-1 win over Canterbury to seal first place.

The girls again started very quickly and built a 2-0 lead before the break. Another goal sealed the win before Canterbury grabbed a late consolation.

Hannah Leiper skippered the side which also featured Imogen Padwick, Anne Redmond, Sian Waite and Monika Johal. Star player Patient scored three times with Lucy Price getting two goals and efforts from Ella Day, Joy Coburn and Alice Melvin. Chloe Joarder, Emma Sharp and Cait Mahoney also competed for the winners.

Old Loughtonians U-14s competed in the East region finals. The side lost 6-1 to eventual winners Cambridge before beating Horsham 2-0 and losing 4-1 to Bury St Edmunds.
