Spurs winger Gareth Bale has revealed he snubbed the opportunity to join Manchester United.
The 22-year-old says he was convinced to link up with Tottenham by the club’s then manager Martin Jol, believing he would stand a better chance of first-team football at White Hart Lane.
“Man United were interested in me but I wanted to play first-team football,” Bale told Match of the Day magazine.
“I thought I had a better chance of getting that at Tottenham.
“The manager at the time, Martin Jol, told me he wanted me to go straight into the first team.”
