Midfielder Marc Laird stressed there is no specific points target for the O’s as they look to haul themselves away from the League One relegation scrap.

Tuesday’s defeat to Huddersfield Town saw the Scot handed his first start for Russell Slade’s side since last month’s defeat at Wycombe Wanderers but he was unable to help Orient take advantage of their game in hand.

With six games remaining in the campaign, Orient sit five points clear of the drop zone in 19th place, but Laird insists the E10 side will just be looking to secure as many points as possible during the final run in.

“You just want to win as many games as possible and take it from there. Every three points is valuable, even a point is valuable at this stage of the season,” he explained.

“Every game is as important as every other game. It is important to take it one game at a time at the moment and try not to put any pressure on ourselves.”

He continued: “We have just got to take it game by game at the moment. It is going to be tough.

“Everybody seems to be picking up results around us but I think we have got a lot of quality in the dressing room so we can get out of the trouble we are in.”

The busy fixture schedule continues for the O’s when they welcome Notts County tomorrow before a trip to Exeter City on Bank Holiday Monday.

Orient enjoyed a 2-1 victory at Meadow Lane earlier in the season against County, and Laird believes the O’s are capable of repeating the trick on their own patch.

He added: “We want to try and get a good result in every game but we have got to look forward to Friday now and try put in a good performance and get the three points that would be valuable.”
