Daniel Fogg will be on the hunt for a pair of medals at London 2012 after he was today confirmed as Team GB’s representative in the men’s open water 10km marathon swim.

The Chingford star had already booked his place in the 1500m freestyle event – to be held in the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park – but will now also be in action in the Serpentine.

He went head-to-head with fellow Olympian David Davies last weekend at the FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier in Setubal, Portugal, in a bid to secure the one place available for the event.

Both were aiming for a top nine finish but with neither reaching that standard, they were left to wait and see who would be awarded the one spot handed to Britain as the host nation.

Davies conceded he felt Fogg should be given the nod by the selectors and the former Waltham Forest Gators competitor had his selection confirmed by the British Olympic Association today.

The 24-year-old will go in the 1500m on Friday, August 3, before facing the open water event seven days later in Hyde Park.

Competing in two different events means a lot of preparation and planning will have to go into his training, but Fogg was thrilled to have been chosen and is relishing the prospect of competing in the two events.

He told the Team GB website: “I am really happy to have been selected for my second event at the Games. I’m back into hard training after recovering from the FINA Open Water event in Portugal and have been focusing on my first event, the 1500m.

“I’ll now sit down with my coach to look at the strategy for the open water event too which is a week after the pool swim. It’s fantastic to get to race in both events.”
