Despite missing a number of athletes, Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies men’s team produced a solid performance to finish fourth at the second British Athletics League Premiership fixture of the season.

The event, held at Barnet Copthall Stadium, saw Shaftesbury Barnet come out comfortable winners ahead Sale.

Woodford Green scored 272 points, seven ahead of Birchfield but disappointingly ten behind NEB.

Shaftesbury now lead the table with 15 points after two of the four fixtures, with Woodford fourth on 10.5 points.

In a good all round team display, with many athletes competing in more than one event, Sam Watts’ victory and time of 21.57 in the B string 200m was a highlight.

On the track, Jordan Kirby-Polidore was fifth in the A 200m in 21.92. Watts had finished third in the 100m B in 11.03 while Simeon Williamson claimed third with 10.67 in the 100m A.

In the shot-putt Devon Douglas was fifth with 15.21m and Linque was sixth in the B with 12.29m.

The 4x100m team of Healson Ihuoma, Watts, Omololu Abiodun and Williamson placed third with 41.54. There was similar success for the 4x400m squad who also claimed third in 3.15.10.

Elsewhere, Woodford’s women found the going tough in the second fixture of the UK Women’s League Premier Division at Eton.

The club finished seventh on 155 points - 22 from third with Birchfield comfortable winners.

Woodford and are now fourth in the overall table but are not yet assured of their Premier Division status for next season. At the fixture, there were wins for Joice Maduaka over 200m and in the 100m hurdles for Sarah Claxton.

In the B sprint events, Azaria Francis was fifth in the 100m with 12.00 and, in the 200m, Katie Skelding finished fifth with a time of 24.54. Skelding had earlier placed third in the 400m in 57.11.
