West Ham have crashed out of the Capital One Cup tonight following a heavy 4-1 home defeat against fellow Premier League side Wigan Athletic.
The Hammers, who made a host of changes for the third round tie, got off to the ideal start when Modibo Maiga capitalised on a mistake by James McArthur to fire the hosts into a seventh-minute lead.
But that was as good as it got for Sam Allardyce’s men, who found themselves 3-1 down by the interval.
Mauro Boselli equalised for the visitors seven minutes later when he converted a Callum McManaman cross and Wigan moved in front seven minutes before the break through Ivan Ramis’ 20-yard strike.
There was still time in the first half for Wigan to add a third when Boselli netted his second of the evening, before a comfortable victory was completed six minutes from time through Jordi Gomez’s penalty.
